What is it? When is it indicated?
Circumferential lipoabdominoplasty is a comprehensive surgical procedure designed to address an excess of subcutaneous abdominal fat, skin laxity, and/or diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles. These conditions can develop following significant weight loss at different ages and in both genders. However, they are more common in women after pregnancy or menopause.
How is the procedure performed?
The procedure begins with circumferential liposuction of the trunk, which targets the entire abdominal region, flanks, and back. Subsequently, abdominoplasty is performed to plicate the fascia of the rectus abdominis muscles, transpose the belly button and excise excess skin.
Is a scar necessary?
Excess skin removal from the entire abdomen necessitates a scar. However, it is strategically positioned along the bikini line to minimize visibility. The less skin that needs to be removed, the smaller the scar. In instances where the scar is smaller, the procedure is referred to as a Miniabdominoplasty, usually located between the inguinal regions.
What types of technology are used?
The liposuction process is enhanced with two vital devices, Microare and Vaser. Microare is a vibroliposuction system that allows for the removal of a larger volume of fat in the same time frame. Meanwhile, Vaser is an ultrasound system that facilitates tissue retraction, minimizes the risk of irregularities, and effectively liquifies fat for subsequent liposuction.
Can it be combined with other surgeries?
This procedure can often be performed in conjunction with breast surgery, thigh lifts, or arm lifts.
