What is it?

Mastopexy is a surgical procedure that lifts the breast tissue while maintaining its volume and improving its shape and contour.

When is it indicated?

Mastopexy is recommended for breast ptosis, which refers to drooping or sagging of the breast tissue. This technique is particularly useful for patients with sagging breasts due to significant weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding or the natural aging process of breast tissues.

How is the procedure performed?

Ptotic (sagging) breasts are characterized by having excess skin. In mastopexy, besides lifting the breast tissues, redundant skin is also excised. The severity of breast ptosis and the amount of excess skin determine the type of skin excision pattern and the resulting scar: inverted T scar, circumvertical scar, or periareolar scar.

What is the difference between Mastopexy and Augmentation Mastopexy?

Mastopexy involves raising and reshaping the breast using only the patient's own breast tissue. This approach rejuvenates the breast with a "self-prosthesis," creating the appearance of a breast with a prosthesis but utilizing natural breast tissue. In cases where breast ptosis is combined with volume loss, augmentation mastopexy with implants is the preferred technique. It allows increasing breast volume through the placement of implants while lifting the mammary tissues simultaneously.

Can it be combined with other surgeries?

Mastopexy is often performed in combination with Circumferential Lipoabdominoplasty.
