What is it?
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the volume and shape of the buttocks. It does this through fat liposuction from various body regions, followed by the reuse of this fat to perform lipofilling (fat grafting) of the buttocks.
When is it indicated?
It is the most indicated treatment for those who are not satisfied with the volume and shape of the gluteal region and who simultaneously do not present flaccidity or accentuated ptosis of the tissues. Naturally, it can only be performed on people who have fat in other body regions.
If you do not have an indication for a BBL, other surgical options can be discussed, namely a gluteal lift using muscle flaps or augmentation gluteoplasty with gluteal implants.
Can it be combined with other surgeries?
This surgery is often combined with other surgical procedures, such as lipoabdominoplasty, bodysculpting or liposuction of the thighs. Its combination with other procedures has two major benefits, in one hand the volumization of the gluteal region and, on the other hand, the optimization of the gluteal shape through liposuction of the surrounding anatomical regions with particular emphasis on liposuction flanks, inner thighs and outer thighs.
The safety of the procedure is reinforced by preparing the fat prior to its infiltration, namely by decanting it, washing it and mixing it with an antibiotic solution. Approximately 30 to 40% of the infiltrated volume is reabsorbed after one to three months. This volume reabsorption is expected and occurs due to the reduction of the edema itself and the non-survival of some grafted adipose cells. The fat graft is placed deep in the subcutaneous tissue superficial to the muscle. The volume and exact location of the fat applied in the four quadrants of the gluteal region is variable and is performed according to your particular needs.
